It’s not just stuff!
The things we own represent more than just the “stuff” we have.
I know there are people that don’t believe inanimate objects have energy. If you’re one of those people who practice gratitude and you “talk” to your belongings as if they were people or pets, you can’t deny that these “things” have the power to affect your physical body. Think about one spot in your home that is filled with clutter and tell me your body doesn’t get a pang of stress. Think of a time when you’ve purchased something new, do you remember feeling the object’s newness on your insides.
Things can either make you feel uplifted or overwhelmed and it all comes down to how we treat them but not everyone is in touch with this way of thinking.
I spoke to one gentleman on the phone and he was requesting packing services. I explained to him that we do two types of organizing, regular organizing and the KonMari Method. He had never heard of the KonMari Method so I gave him a little background, and for those of you that don’t know about the method, the idea is that by only keeping the things in your home that you love and want, your life will vibrate at the highest level possible. He interrupted me and said, “Listen, all we need is for you to pack up our things in boxes so that we can take them to our new house, we don't need you to change our lives.” I didn't hear from him again after that. For some people, things are just things and that's OK.
For the people who recognize the living energy in their clothing, kitchen items, and keepsakes, this blog is for you.
I had an interesting experience recently. I reconnected with an old client I hadn’t seen in almost a decade. He had given me my first interior design job and the project was to get their firstborn’s baby room ready as a surprise for his wife. We had a blast. I had the room painted, we built IKEA furniture, we accomplished the practically impossible in a matter of 3 days with no notice. It was challenging and exhilarating, and we pulled it off. The mom-to-be was genuinely surprised. She cried when she told her hubby that it was better than when he proposed. She was relieved that the baby room was ready and that all the stuff in the existing room had been tidied and moved to its rightful place.
The things in our homes have the power to support us or overwhelm us.
Some have been open to the subject of their things holding energy and some haven’t. It doesn’t make or break the tidiness of your home, but if you can embrace the fact that things do vibrate with energy, it will make living in your space more magical and energizing and it will spill over into all parts of your day. When you have the things in your home that reflect your inner essence it can help you want to care for it on a regular basis.
The “stuff” we keep can lead us to the life we want or it can keep us where we’re at.
I’m living proof of these words. My business starting, my home remodel, the new direction that my business has taken with home staging, my floral design certification… All of these started as wishes on my insides, I discarded the things from my life that were holding me back, and they are now what I’m doing as a result of tidying up.
The photo above is of a recent client’s new hampers that they purchased after we KonMari’d their closet they realized their old hamper no longer worked for their space. The hubby said to the wife, “If we’re going to get new ones, let’s find something we want to look at.”
