Make Your Bed Monday

Mondays are for…

How was your weekend? Did you get a lot accomplished? Did you have enough time to recharge and reset your space?

Weekends can be busy and if you didn’t have time to reset it can lead to starting your week on the wrong foot, which can lead to more overwhelm, and ultimately leave you feeling like it’s a never ending battle.

If weekends are impossible for tidying then here are some days-of-the-week action steps you can take, so by the weekend you can have all of your free time for traveling, cooking, or just laying in bed.

Make Your Bed Monday - Walk in the door from your day and immediately put your sheets in the washer. During this time do your meal prep or walk dogs etc. When finished, sheets go in dryer, and if you can, vacuum under your bed, clear off night stands (however this needs to happen, do it!) and wipe surfaces. If dinner is in the oven or if you have a lull, lay on your unmade bed (without your phone so you can be fully present) and tell it ‘thank you’. Squeeze your pillows, snuggle your blankies, and do snow angels on your mattress as if your bed were your bff, put as much loving energy into this as possible. Ding, the dryer and dinner might both finish around the same time! If you can wait to eat, put your sheets back on your bed, tell your bed ‘i love you, you’re the best, thanks for caring for me at night while i sleep’. If you eat dinner first you may be too tired or unmotivated to put sheets back on. You can also do this exercise any way you want with the essentials of making your bed with loving energy, vacuuming underneath, and clearing/wiping off your night stands. Who cares if it’s perfect, just do those steps!

Make-Your-Bed-Monday can be done any day of the week that you can fit it in. You’ll be surprised how amazing your freshly made bed will feel.

Please don’t not do it because everything else in your room or home is out of order. Try to ignore your mind telling you that your whole house is a mess or that the bed isn’t the priority. This isn’t the point of this exercise, and if you can only do the Monday action step and none of the others, then call that a win, and keep doing it until you’re ready for the next one.

We must start somewhere! (Next week on Tuesday will be that day’s action step)

You might be asking what to do with the contents from the nightstand. Keep everything in a reusable shopping bag/bags and if you can categorize items and put in ziplocks or some kind of system to keep things categorized, this will be the start of your tidying festival.
